Everybody needs somebody, and that body doesn't necessarily have to be human (it can be a celestial body). The moon has many representations in our lives; whether you believe it represents solace or one's psyche, a common theme is that the moon has a meaningful place in the hearts of many. Si Yo Fuera Una Canción released its third episode last week, and I've been reflecting on Cat Quinn and Elisabeth Le Guin's conversation about the lunar body.
Cat Quinn shared her love for the moon and the significance of appreciating the celestial bodies around us. Quinn discussed how many people may feel intuitively connected to the moon, especially during times of stress for solace. She spoke of how hope tied to sadness can help to encourage positivity in one's life. This conversation reminded me of a beautiful song that I love; "Why iii Love the Moon" by Phony Ppl. The song is an eloquent ode to the moon that can be streamed on the band’s album Yesterday's Tomorrow.
Let's take some time to dive into the song itself. The primary vocal artist, Elbee Thrie from Phony Ppl, opens the song talking about how real love is so hard to find, then explains how he loves the moon because it's always there for you in a way that humans may not be able to match. Some of the most powerful words of this song are:

The artist shares how the moon exists as an anchor in his life. The repetition of the words "cause it's always there for me" gets at the heart of how someone may feel at peace with acknowledgement of the moon's presence. Repetition in music is usually included with the intention of emphasizing a given point; in this case Elbee Thrie is emphasizing that the moon is always there for him across time and various phases in life.
I thought that the vocal artist's lyrics supported Cat Quinn's reflection that "... [the] moon… is that friend… something that's reliable. Something that's walking with you…" Reliability in Cat Quinn's reflection is paralleled with Elbee Thrie's idea that the moon is always there. While shifting in various phases, the celestial body has not ever ceased to exist. The moon reminds us to embrace change throughout all stages of our life, whether we're waxing or waning at a point in time.
The moon is a light in the darkness for us, which can strongly affirm people who may have internal struggles.
